Description
This print shows the death of prince Louis of Prussia by the battle of Saalfeld, near Salzburg Austria, on 10th of Octobre 1806. Marshal Lannes’ 5th Corps met the advance guard of Hohenlohe, commanded by Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, in front of the town of Saalfeld. The battle began and after a few hours the Saxo-Prussian troops gave way to those of Lannes. In the disorder of the withdrawal, Prince Louis Ferdinand was caught by Marshal Guindey, of the 10th Hussar Regiment. After the prince refuses to surrender, a duel ensues in which the prince is mortally wounded.
