Print Description
This print shows the battle of Rijmenam in Belgium, on July 31, 1578 at the beginning of the Eighty Years’ War between the States General of the Netherlands and the Spanish Governor General. The battle ended as a defeat for the Spanish.
The former set up camp in Rijmenam in July 1578 under the general leadership of the Count of Boussu. The English mercenaries were led by Sir John Norris and Sir Richard Bingham, the Scottish mercenaries under Robert Stuart and the French Huguenots under Fran?ois de la Noue.
