Original antique broadside with verse comparing the investing bubble to an Aesop fable / tale. To the left Aesop, pointing at the cabbage eating monkeys mistaken for fortune. In the clouds the king of animals paying off Mercury while father time is watching.
Made by an anonymous engraver after John Law.

Sheet size: 42.5 x 33.5 cm (16.73 x 13.19 inch). Image size: 34.5 x 28.5 cm. (13.58 x 11.22 inch).
Condition: fair, given age. Several imperfections. Original middle fold as issued. Foxing. Crinkles and creases. Tears in margins restored. Stains on verso. Sold as is. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published in “Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid, vertoonende de opkomst, voortgang en ondergang der Actie, Bubbel en Windnegotie, in Vrankryk, Engeland, en de Nederlanden, gepleegt in den Jaare MDCCXX”, Amsterdam, 1720. (The Great Mirror of Folly), which is actually a collection on all printsmaps and text, published in 1720, satirizing the Englishman John Law, his Mississippi Company, and the international land and trading speculation in worthless shares of the South Sea Bubble of 1719-1720, which resulted in an international scandal.
