Description
The scene is a Bacchanalian interpretation of the parable of the wise and foolish virgins, symbolized through characters in classical dress. A central figure holds a glass aloft, while a seated woman and other characters recline in the foreground. The imagery suggests a classical and allegorical interpretation.

Biography engraver: Jan Saenredam (1565-1607) was a Dutch engraver and cartographer who worked in the classical and mannerist style. He produced a number of significant engravings, including religious and allegorical subjects.
