(‘The trumpeter in the guard house’). It shows a seated man in period costume, smoking a pipe. The trappings of his occupation (armor, weaponry, banner and trumpet) are beside him on the ground.

Biography engraver: Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804-1877) was a Bavarian painter, lithographer and photographer. He originates from a commoner family but was recommended for the drawing-class of his school at Munich. His main accomplishment is a series of ca. 200 lithographic reproductions of works in the Dresden gallery.
