Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, but colors remain bright and well-preserved. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Published as part of a noble commission, dedicated to Marie Charlotte, Duchess of Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Meiningen.
Biography engraver: Charles-Melchior Descourtis (1753-1820) was a French engraver active in Paris, known for his aquatints, particularly of scenic landscapes and views commissioned for noble patrons.
Biography artist: Caspar Wolf (1735-1783) was a Swiss painter, known mostly for his dramatic paintings of the Alps. He was strongly influenced by Albrecht von Haller’s poems on the Alps, and the Sturm und Drang movement. After 1773 Wolf mostly painted glaciers, caves, waterfalls and gorges.
