‘J.E. MARCUS F. MAART 1813’

– A striking genre composition featuring a rural soldier with rifle standing in front of ruins, while three bourgeois-looking figures?a man and two women?appear to approach and address him. The contrast between the soldier’s stern expression and the engaged group adds narrative intrigue.
