Description
Skipper’s wife from Holland, standing to the right, half seen from the back, a market bucket (chips with metal hoops) on the right arm. Over a hat protruding on either side of the face is a large, round pointed hat. Wide pleated collar. Sleeveless, fitted jacket trimmed with fur along the hem. Straight-fitting, ankle-length skirt over executioner over which white aprons. Block-heeled mules.

Medium: Etching on thin china – oriental paper.
Sheet size: 5.8 x 9.3 cm (2.28 x 3.66 inch).
Condition: good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) was a prolific and accomplished Bohemian graphic artist of the 17th century, who spent much of his life in England. He is known to German speakers as Wenzel Hollar; and to Czech speakers as V?clav Hollar. He is particularly noted for his engravings and etchings. He was born in Prague, died in London, and was buried at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster.
