Description
An engraving depicting the Siege of Douai in 1667, part of the conquests of Louis XIV. A fallen horse and the king surrounded by his retinue are central, with intricate ornamentation and smaller vignettes.
Made by Sebastien Le Clerc, the Elder after After Charles Le Brun.
Medium: Engraving and etching on hand-laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 40.3 x 56.1 cm (15.87 x 22.09 inch). Image size: 40.1 x 56 cm. (15.79 x 22.05 inch).
Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, soiling, and creasing. Tear at top right of image en several small tesrs in the paper edges, backed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
