Medium: Etching with engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 41.5 x 55.5 cm (16.34 x 21.85 inch). Image size: 25.8 x 44.7 cm. (10.16 x 17.6 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, creasing, and soiling. Some small mangane stains from paper making process. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) was an Italian etcher, architect, and designer renowned for his dramatic views of Rome and influential decorative designs. His work combined archaeological scholarship with imaginative reinterpretation of classical antiquity. Through his engravings, especially the Carceri and the Diverse Maniere, he became one of the most influential figures in the development of Neoclassicism across Europe.
