Description
This print shows a view on a peasant couple on a road. The wife is sitting on donkey back and the man is walking. With them a cow, sheep and a dog. One of a series of 4.
Made by Jan Groensveld after Nicolaes Pietersz. Berchem.
Medium: Etching / engraving on handlaid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 20.2 x 15.5 cm (7.95 x 6.1 inch). Image size: 19 x 14.5 cm. (7.48 x 5.71 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Remains of paper tape in corners on reverse. Brownish paper. Small tear in upper margin restored. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Jan / Johannes Gronsveld / Gronsvelt / Groensveld (The Hague; ca. 1650-1728) is a little known etcher, active in Amsterdam.
Biography artist: Nicolaas Pietersz. Berchem, (Haarlem, 1622 – Amsterdam, 18 februari 1683) was a Dutch painter, draftsman, and etcher. He is best known for his pastoral Mediterranean landscapes.
