Biography artist: Sébastien Le Clerc (1637-1714) was a French draftsman, engraver, mathematician and military engineer. One of the most prolific printmakers of the reign of Louis XIV, he produced thousands of engravings including landscapes, book illustrations, architectural views, scientific diagrams and ornamental designs. His prints were widely copied throughout Europe and served as models for artists and print publishers well into the nineteenth century.
