Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, soiling and creasing. Some staining. Remains of tape from attachment. Plate losely attached to carrier sheet (hand laid paper). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From the set “Regiuncul? Amoenissim? eleganter delineate Johanne van Goyen et ?ri incis? per Johannem de Visscher”.

Biography engraver: Johannes (Jan) de Visscher (1633-after 1692), Haarlem-born engraver and painter. Moved to Amsterdam where he became a citizen in 1658. Known for portrait and landscape engravings after Dutch masters like Berchem and van Goyen. Began painting later in life under Michiel Carr?e. Not as prominent as his brother Cornelis, but still a skilled engraver of note.

Biography artist: Jan van Goyen (1596-1656) was a prolific Dutch Golden Age painter, specializing in tonal landscapes. Influenced many artists and produced over 1200 paintings and 1000 drawings. Known for rapid execution, thin painting layers, and naturalistic views of Dutch rivers, villages, and countryside.
