BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in 1784 during the Patriot-Orangist conflicts in Rotterdam.

Biography engraver: Theodorus de Roode (1736-1791) was a Dutch engraver and painter. He made a study trip to Belgium and Germany around 1756 and later moved to Vienna, where he worked as a portrait painter until 1771. He married E. Wibbels in Rotterdam on July 23, 1786. De Roode created portraits, etchings, and engravings, with notable works including a tombstone for the R. K. St.-Rosaliakerk in Rotterdam and engravings for the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam and the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam.
