– The engraving depicts Queen Mary II (1662-1694), who reigned jointly with William III from 1689 to 1694. It is a fine example of late 17th-century portraiture engraving. Condition: good, given age. Small tears in top, left and bottom paper edges, backed. Some small paper loss in bottom paper edge. Light creasing, foxing and soiling. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Gerard Valck (1652-1726) was a Dutch engraver, publisher, and cartographer known for his detailed portraits of English nobility and collaborations with Abraham Blooteling. Valck also produced maps, atlases, and globes.

Biography artist: Sir Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723) was a German-born British painter and the leading portraitist in England during the late Stuart and early Georgian periods. He served as a court painter to several monarchs and created iconic works, including the “Hampton Court Beauties” series.
