BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Pieter Tanje (1706-1761) was a Dutch engraver from Amsterdam known for his finely detailed reproductive etchings after contemporary Dutch painters. He worked closely with Cornelis Troost to translate his theatrical and genre scenes into prints.

Biography artist: Cornelis Troost (1696-1750) was a celebrated Dutch painter and draughtsman known for humorous, theatrical, and satirical scenes. Often compared to Hogarth, Troost depicted scenes from Dutch society and theatre with sharp wit and vivid expression.
