BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Grand Bed of Willem IV (series of four plates depicting the mausoleum erected for Prince Willem IV, 1751). Published with privilege of the States of Holland and West Friesland.

Reference: Series of four plates of the mausoleum for Prince Willem IV (Royal funeral decorations, The Hague, 1752).

Biography engraver: Jan Punt (1711-1779) was an 18th-century painter and engraver from the Northern Netherlands.

Biography artist: Pierre De Swart (1709-1773) was a Dutch architect and designer who served as court architect to William IV, Prince of Orange. He was responsible for various architectural and decorative projects in the Dutch Republic and played a significant role in the design of ceremonial and courtly structures, including funeral decorations.
