Made by Georg Friedrich Schmidt after Rembrandt Hermansz. van Rijn.

Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Small coat of arms.

Sheet size: 15.6 x 20.1 cm (6.14 x 7.91 inch). Image size: 12.9 x 16.8 cm. (5.08 x 6.61 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Foxing and ghosting from previous matting. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Plate 8 from a series of 8: ‘Our Father’ from the Print Bible: ‘Theatrum Biblicum Hoc Est Historiae Sacrae Veteris et Novi Testamenti Tabulis Aeneis Expressae.’, published by by C.J. Visscher, 1643.

Biography engraver: Georg Friedrich Schmidt (1712-1775) was a German engraver known for his masterful etchings and reproductions of paintings, particularly those by Rembrandt.

Biography artist: Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) was a Dutch painter and etcher, widely considered one of the greatest visual artists in the history of art and the most important in Dutch art history.
