BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Diverses Especes De Poissons tant de Mer, que d’Eeau douce (series title) published by Jacques Lagniet. Grantee of privilege: Louis XIV (King of France).

Biography engraver: Pieter de Jode II or Pieter de Jode the Younger (1606-1674) was a Flemish Baroque printmaker, draughtsman, painter and art dealer. A scion of an important dynasty of printmakers active in Antwerp, he created many prints after the works of leading painters and was a close collaborator of Anthony van Dyck for whom he engraved many portraits.

Biography artist: Anselm van Hulle or Anselmus van Hulle (1601-1674/1694) was a Flemish painter mainly of portraits whose works were highly prized at the Northern European Courts. He was court painter to the Prince of Orange and was one of the few portrait painters who attended the peace negotiations for the Peace of M?nster in 1648. Van Hulle established an international reputation by having the portraits he made of the delegates at the negotiations engraved and published.
