Biography artist: Sébastien Le Clerc I (1637–1714) was a French draftsman, engraver, mathematician and military engineer. One of the most prolific printmakers of the reign of Louis XIV, he produced thousands of prints including landscapes, architectural views, book illustrations and ornamental designs. His refined etching style strongly influenced later reproductive printmakers.
