Based on the unfinished portrait by Jacques-Louis David, c. 1800. This version published in late 19th century, by Werckmeisters Kunstverlag in Berlin.

Biography engraver: H. Varges was an etcher known for reproductions of classic portraiture in the 19th century.

Biography artist: Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) was a leading French neoclassical painter known for historical subjects and portraits, including of Napoleon.
