A seated female figure fastening a letter to a messenger pigeon, to send to her love. She is seated in a wooded area next to a stream with a small cataract, the pigeon’s basket open beside her.

Condition: good, given age. Image fine. Paper loss in top left corner and below, backed. Remains of tape on rear from previous attachment. Plate trimmed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Published in London by W. Dickinson in 1787.
Biography engraver: Philip Dawe (c.1745-1809) was a British painter and mezzotinter of portraits and satires on fashion. Natural son of a city merchant; pupil and relation by marriage of Henry Morland, after whom he often worked; father of George Dawe. Exhibited 1761-82. Worked mostly for Sayer and for Bowles, but published some early states himself.
Biography artist: George Morland (1763-1804) was an English painter of animals and rustic scenes.
