Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, creasing and soiling. Pinholes in corners margin. 4 Tears a top and bottom margin, backed. Nice dark impression. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Based on a painting by Vernet, engraved by Balechou and published in Marseille.

Biography engraver: Jean Joseph Balechou (1719-1764) was a French engraver from Avignon, known for his technically refined interpretations of paintings by Vernet and other contemporary artists. His engravings are celebrated for their clarity, softness, and attention to detail.

Biography artist: Claude-Joseph Vernet (1714-1789) was one of the most important French landscape and marine painters of the 18th century. He was admired for his atmospheric seascapes and coastal views, often depicting storms, shipwrecks, and idyllic Mediterranean scenery.
