Description
Original master print, ‘Landscape with rainbow’. It shows a farmer piling hay into a waggon, while two women are carrying produce. Some wash is drying next to the waggon. A farmstead can be seen in the background, while the sky features a large rainbow.
Made by Schelte Adamsz. Bolswert after Peter Paul Rubens.
Medium: engraving / etching with hand colouring on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 47 x 35 cm (18.5 x 13.78 inch). Image size: 46 x 34 cm. (18.11 x 13.39 inch).
Condition: excellent, given age. Margins cropped a bit short, some thumbing to the bottom margin. Traces of framing to the rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Original antique master print. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters. Artists and Engravers: Engraved by S. A. Bolswert after a painting by Rubens. This print was published by Gillis Hendricx, in c.1640.
Biography engraver: Schelte Adamsz. Bolswert (1586-1659) was a Dutch engraver. His older brother Boetius was an engraver as well. From 1620 Schelte starts working for Rubens, under whose suypervision he makes four prints. In total Schelte would reproduce around 80 paintings by Rubens in engraving. He worked for several other Antwerp painters, such as Rombouts, Seghers and Jordaens.
Biography artist: Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was a Flemish painter, who ran a large studio in Antwerp.
