Medium: Mezzotint engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 47.6 x 38.5 cm (18.74 x 15.16 inch). Image size: 46.5 x 37.8 cm. (18.31 x 14.88 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Visible central vertical fold, minor edge wear, light foxing. Trimmed to the image. Paper edges a bit chipped. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

After a painting owned by Madame de Pompadour; part of a wider series of mythological and literary scenes after Boucher.

Biography engraver: August Hermann Jakob Degmair (1717-1783) was a German engraver and mezzotinter; worked in Augsburg for the Klauber’sche Verlag; specialised in portraiture.

Biography artist: Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was a leading French Rococo painter, known for idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical and allegorical subjects, including decorative arts and mythological themes.
