BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From: ‘Icones Illustrium Feminarum Veteris Testamenti’ (The Celebrated Women of the Old Testament). Posibly a later 17th.c. impression.

Reference: New Hollstein Collaert 102.I; Hollstein de Vos 239; British Museum, inv. 1992,0404.19.

Biography engraver: Jan Collaert II (c.1561-1620) was a prominent Flemish engraver from the Collaert family, known for religious and mythological series after designs by Maarten de Vos.

Biography artist: Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) was a leading Flemish painter and draughtsman of the late 16th century, known for his biblical, historical, and allegorical compositions.
