Published by Jan Steven van Esveldt Holtrop, Amsterdam, 1810. The publication assembles studies after celebrated seventeenth-century masters intended for artistic training. .

Biography engraver: Cornelis Danckerts I (1604-1656) was a Dutch engraver, printer, and publisher. Active in Amsterdam from around 1631. His publishing house grew into a well-known cartographic family business run by his descendants.

Biography artist: Gabriel Perelle (1604-1677) was a French draftsman and printmaker of topographic views and landscapes. A pupil of Simon Vouet, Perelle specialized in classical landscapes not dissimilar to those of Francisque Millet, although more obviously decorative. He founded an etching workshop, and his sons Nicolas (1631-1695) and Adam (1640-1695) assisted him.
