BACKGROUND INFORMATION
From Anthony van Dyck’s Icones Principum Virorum / Iconographia series.
Biography engraver: Pieter de Jode II (ca. 1606–1674) was a Flemish engraver, draughtsman and publisher from Antwerp. Son of Pieter de Jode I, he became an accomplished reproductive engraver known for portraits and collaborations after designs by Anthony van Dyck and Rubens.
Biography artist: Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599–1641) was a Flemish Baroque painter and printmaker celebrated for his elegant portraiture and the influential Iconographia series depicting artists, scholars and noblemen.
