Description
Subject: Antique print, untitled. A riverside inn, with a small sail cargo boat moored on the riverbank. Several figures around the building.
Condition: Fair, given age. A closed tear in the middle of the print (backed with acid-free archival tape), a closed tear in the left bottom margin (backed with paper and acid-free archival tape), a closed wormhole in the left margin (backed with paper and acid-free archival tape). Some smudges in the bottom margin. A faint stain in the top right of the image. Two vertical creases in the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Etching, watermark: five pointed foolscap

Artists and Engravers: Made by Jan van de Velde after own design. Jan van de Velde (1593-1641) came from the southern Netherlands as a fugitive around 1600 to the Netherlands. His father was a writingmaster and Jan trainend as an etcher. He produced many highly important series of landscape prints.
