Description
Original antique print, titled: ‘La Paralytique servi par ses enfants’. (The paralytic served by his children.) It shows: a paralytic man, resting in a chair, surrounded by his family and dog. His son is feeding him some broth with a spoon.
Made by Jean Jacques Filipart after Jean Baptiste Greuze.
Medium: engraving / etching with hand colouring on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 66 x 56.5 cm (25.98 x 22.24 inch). Image size: 63 x 54 cm. (24.8 x 21.26 inch).
Condition: fair, given age. Flaws mostly in margins. Several small creases in the top margin and top part of the plate. Bottom margin extended using paper tape. A closed tear in the bottom right corner. Paper loss in the lower right corner. Rear with trace remains of earlier attachment to carrier. Pinhole wormholes in the image. Makes a great impression despite flaws. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This master print was published in Paris by J.B. Greuze in 1767. Our definition of master print is: a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. Biography engraver: Jean Jacques Filipart (1719-1782) was a French engraver. His father was French engraver Jean Charles Flipart, under whom he received his initial training in the engraver’s art. Flipart later trained under French engraving master Laurent Cars (1699-1771). His brother Charles Joseph Flipart was noted both for his engraving and painting oeuvre.
Biography artist: Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805) was a French painter, born in Tournus. He was taken under the wing of Grandon, who later took him to Lyon and Paris. From 1757 he exhibited in the Salon of the Academie.
