Antique print, titled: ‘Haerlemmerpoort’, The city gate into Amsterdam as it appeared in 1617. It was built by Hendrick de Keyser and finished in 1618 (although the caption below the image states 1617). The image shows the gate with its surroundings and numerous figures. Artists and Engravers: Made by R. Nooms. Reinier Nooms (dit Zeeman, 1623-1664) was a Dutch painter of mainly nautical scenes. He started painting after a career on sea, and this hands on knowledge of sailing is very apparent in his paintings.

From a series: ‘Nieuwe en eygentlycke afbeeldinghe der stadts-poorten van Amsterdam in ‘t licht gebracht door R.N. Zeeman.’, published c. 1654-1701.

Ref: New Hollstein Dutch 25.
