Description
An interior view of the grand hall (Burgerzaal) of Amsterdam’s Stadhuis (Town Hall) during a formal ball held in 1768. The grand ball was held at the Amsterdam Town Hall on June 2, 1768, to celebrate the visit of Willem V, Prince of Orange, and his wife, Wilhelmina of Prussia. The scene is filled with elegantly dressed men and women dancing and watching from balconies, with grand architectural details. At the center of the back wall, the sculpture of Atlas holding the globe is prominently displayed.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Series of 14 plates commemorating the visit of Willem V and Wilhelmina of Prussia to Amsterdam in 1768.

Biography engraver: Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816) was a Dutch engraver and draughtsman who worked in the Dutch Republic during the 18th century. He is known for his detailed depictions of historical and architectural scenes, as well as portraits. Vinkeles played a significant role in documenting important moments in Dutch history through his engravings.
