Subject: Plate : ‘La Cuisiniere Charitable.’ (The charitable cook). This plate shows an 18th century interior scene with a female cook pouring soup for a beggar.
Condition: Good. General age-related toning and light staining with light soiling. Short margins with some small tears; backed. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Engraving / etching on a verge type of hand laid paper.

Description: This original antique master print was published in Paris ca. 1770. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.
Artists and Engravers: This plate by Chevilet after C. Eisen. Poem by M. Moraine. Juste Chevillet (1729-1790) was a German engraver, active in France. He was probably of French descent and studied engraving under Georg Friedrich Schmidt (1712-75) in Berlin before moving to Paris, where he completed his training under Jean-Georges Wille and later worked very much under his patronage. Charles-Dominique-Joseph Eisen (1720�1778), was a french painter and draftsman. He was the son and pupil of Frans Eisen. In 1741 he went to Paris, and in the following year entered the studio of Le Bas. His talent and his sparkling wit gained him admission to the court, where he became painter and draftsman to the King, and drawing-master to Madame de Pompadour.
