Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 13.2 x 11.9 cm. The image size is ca. 13 x 10.1 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 5.2 x 4.7 inch. The image size is ca. 5.1 x 4 inch.
Antique print, titled: ‘Het lyk van de vrouw van een sergeant van de militairen op het nieuwe kerkhof buiten Arnhem, opgegraaven en ter begraavinge na de stad gebragt den 4den Augustus 1783.’, (‘The corpse of the wife of a sergeant of the military, dug up from the new cemetery outside Arnhem, brought into the city). Several men are in a graveyard, carrying the basket (presumably with the sergeant’s wife) on their shoulders toward the exit. Fragment of a larger plate titled: ‘Atlas der Geschiedenissen van onzen tyd. Plaat I’. This was a trial printing of a new series depicting historical scenes from 1780-1787. The series was not created beyond this trial. Artists and Engravers: Made by Matthias de Sallieth after Willem Kok. Mathias de Sallieth (1749 – 1791): Czech etcher/engraver of etchings, stipple engravings and aquatint. Publisher and artist. Born in Prague, died in Rotterdam. He worked in Vienna, Paris, Schoonderloo and Rotterdam. He was a student of J.E. Mansfeld in Vienna and Jacques Philippe Le Bas in Paris. He worked for F. Samsom.
Condition: Excellent, given age. Margins cropped close to the image edge. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
