Description
Engraving of Sir Constantijn Huygens, Lord of Zuilichem (1596-1687), a Dutch Golden Age poet and composer. He was also secretary to two Princes of Orange: Frederick Henry and William II, and the father of the scientist Christiaan Huygens. He is shown in half-length, holding a book, with a distant cloudy sky in the background. The work is engraved by Paulus Pontius after a portrait by Anthony van Dyck.

Biography engraver: Paulus Pontius (1603-1658) was a Flemish engraver who worked closely with Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck. He became one of the principal engravers of van Dyck’s portraits in the Iconography series, a collection of portraits of notable contemporaries.
Biography artist: Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641) was a Flemish Baroque artist best known for his portraits of European aristocracy, notably his work for the English court under King Charles I. His elegant style significantly influenced English portrait painting.
