Biography engraver: Bernard Picart (1673-1733) was a prominent French engraver, later active in Amsterdam. Renowned for his illustrative work and religious prints, especially his engravings for Ceremonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde.
Biography artist: Charles Le Brun (1619-1690) was France’s preeminent Baroque painter under Louis XIV, principal decorator of Versailles, and director of the Acad?mie royale. Known for large-scale allegorical and religious compositions.
