Medium: Etching on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 34.5 x 29.2 cm (13.58 x 11.5 inch). Image size: 27.7 x 22.8 cm. (10.91 x 8.98 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, creasing and soiling. Strong vertical crease near middle. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Self-published by Robert Hills, in London. Possibly part of a larger series of animal studies by Hills, though not catalogued in a specific corpus.

Biography engraver: Robert Hills (1769-1844) was a British painter and etcher known for his finely detailed depictions of rural animals, particularly cattle and sheep. He trained at the Royal Academy and often collaborated with landscape artists, contributing animals to their compositions. His works are held in the British Museum and other major collections.
