BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This print was first published by Gerard de Jode in 1579 in “Thesaurus sacrarum historiarum”. This print was published by his son Petrus de Jode ca 1600.
Biography engraver: Gerard de Jode (Nijmegen 1509 – Antwerpen 1591) was a cartographer, engraver and publisher of atlasses. .
Biography artist: Pieter I de Jode (1570-1631)was born in Antwerp as the son of Gerard de Jode. He is part of a family of engravers. Pieter I de Jode earned a living as a draughtsman, engraver and publisher. He was the publisher of certain prints of the Rubens graphic and was trained by Hendrik Goltzius.
