Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 32.5 x 20.7 cm (12.8 x 8.15 inch). Image size: 16 x 12.5 cm. (6.3 x 4.92 inch).
Condition: fair, given age. Folds in corners. Some creases. Brown spots. Text in pencil on reverse. One wormhole and two holes from binding. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This print is one of eight prints from the series ‘Bullenboekje’ (Book of various Bulls and Oxen), after Paulus Potter, published ca. 1650. Four states are known. This state is unknown. Probably a later early 18th.c. ed.

Biography engraver: Marcus de Bye (1612-1670) was a seventeenth century Dutch etcher and painter of animals, Marcus De Bye studied art in The Hague under Jacob van der Does. He began his career by etching both landscapes and animal depictions after his teacher but throughout most of his career he dedicated himself to animal studies after the designs of Markus Gerard and, most particularly, Paulus Potter.
Biography artist: Paulus Potter (1625-1654) is one of the Netherlands’ most celebrated animal artists, known for his faithful works of bulls, cows and other livestock.
