Original antique master print showing two men in rustic clothing in a bare kitchen with a casement window, one wearing spurs, a whip, tankard and hat lying around him with a handkerchief in his pocket, smoking a pipe, standing with one knee on a wooden bench, leaning with right arm on the back of it, looking towards the hearth, the second sitting under the hood of the hearth close to the fire.

Biography engraver: R. Syer (1798-1801 fl. c.), British printmaker; painter/draughtsman.
Biography artist: George Morland (1763-1804) was an English painter of animals and rustic scenes. He was born in London, third son of Henry Robert Morland. His father, artist, engraver and picture restorer. Morland’s work in painting is characterised by the simple subjects he painted. He depicted the life he knew from his own experience. Morland worked closely with William and James Ward, and later married their sister Anne.
