Antique print, titled: ‘Feuille V.’ – Detailed map of Austria, north region, with Vienna, Amstetten and Steyr. From: “Carte Generale du Theatre de la Guerre en Italie et dans les Alps”, published in Paris, 1798. This work consists of: 2 double-page engraved title-pages, 2 key maps and 29 maps and one table. Although military movements are shown on the maps, these are also simply stunning detailed maps of the region. In 1802 it was the best map available to Napoleon covering all of Italy. Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Freres Bordiga’ after ‘Louis Albert Guislain Bacler d’Albe’. Benedetto Bordiga (1766-1847) and Gaudenzio Bordiga (1773-1837) were brothers and engravers from Italy. Benedetto is known as a stipple engraver.He was a student of Giuseppe Longhi. Gaudenzio is known as a carthographer. Louis-Albert-Guislain Bacler of Alba, (1761-1824) was a general, cartographer and French painter of the Revolution and the Empire. He was a map-maker and the closest strategic advisor of Napoleon from 1796 until 1814.
Condition: Excellent, given age. A faint crease in the middle of the sheet (original?). Binding holes in the left margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
