Map : ‘Royaume d’Irlande’. Detailed map of Ireland. It depicts the entire island with county and regional subdivisions defined. It offers excellent detail throughout showing mountains, rivers, forests, swamps, cities and a host of additional topographic features. The whole exhibits considerable accuracy giving ample evidence to Ireland’s long cartographic history. Undersea shoals and reefs along the eastern coast of Ireland are also noted. Large decorative cartouche.

Condition: good, given age. Slight browning at middle fold. A few brown spots. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This original antique map was published in France ca. 1750.
Biography artist: Gilles Robert de Vaugondy, a French cartographer with connection to the Sanson family, was born 1688 in Paris. He used Sanson’s plates and also acquired plates of Jaillot. His major work was the beautiful “Atlas Universel” first issued in 1757. He died 1766 in Paris.
