This print shows a view of central Mexico which reaches from Durango in the north as far south as the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Mexico City is located on the shores of a large lake. Decorative title cartouche.
Made by an anonymous engraver after Jacques Nicholas Bellin.
Medium: Engraving with hand colouring on hand laid (verge) paper.

Condition: good, given age. Fold as published. Brown spot in lower and upper margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

This attractive print was published in 1754.
Biography artist: Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703 ? 1772) was a French hydrographer, geographer, and member of the French intellectual group called the philosophes. He was hydrographer of France’s hydrographic office, member of the Acad?mie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. Over a 50-year career, he produced many maps of particular interest to the Minist?re de la Marine. His maps of Canada and of French territories in North America (New France, Acadia, Louisiana) are particularly valuable. .
