This handcoloured print shows a miniature map of Iran from the Caspian Sea and extending to the Gulf of Oman filled with detail of towns, mountains and topography. On reverse text on Palestine.
Made by an anonymous engraver after Giovannin Antonio Magiini.
Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 21.5 x 15.5 cm (8.46 x 6.1 inch). Image size: 17.2 x 13 cm. (6.77 x 5.12 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Brownish. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published in “Geographiae Universae” by Giovanni Antonio Magini. Venice 1596. The Magini’s 1596 edition of Geographiae was the first reduced size version of Mercator’s atlas. .
Biography artist: Giovanni Antonio Magini (in Latin, Maginus) (1555-1617) was an Italian astronomer, astrologer, cartographer, and mathematician from Padua. In 1588 he was chosen over Galileo Galilei to occupy the chair of mathematics at the University of Bologna after the death of Egnatio Danti.
