This attractive print was published in ‘Pour l’Histoire Genaeraldes voyages’, 1754.
Biography engraver: Jakob van Schley (26 July 1715 ? 7 February 1779) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver. He studied under Bernard Picart (1673-1733) whose style he subsequently copied. .
Biography artist: Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703 ? 1772) was a French hydrographer, geographer, and member of the French intellectual group called the philosophes. He was hydrographer of France’s hydrographic office, member of the Acad?mie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. Over a 50-year career, he produced many maps of particular interest to the Minist?re de la Marine. His maps of Canada and of French territories in North America (New France, Acadia, Louisiana) are particularly valuable. .
