Map : ‘France Corrected from ye Observations Made By The Royal Academy of Scieces at Paris’. Very detailed large and decorative map of France, hand colored by provinces. Includes an ornated title cartouche, coat of arms and dedication to Charles Boyle, Earl of Orkney. Also shown are parts of Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy and Germany.

Medium: engraving / etching with original hand colouring on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 101 x 66.5 cm (39.76 x 26.18 inch). Image size: 92 x 64 cm. (36.22 x 25.2 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Paper separation lower middle fold, backed. A few small repaired tears in the margins. A few small spots. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This original antique map was published 1708. Artists and Engravers: John Senex.

Biography engraver: John Senex was a surveyor, engraver, bookseller and publisher in early 18th century London. During the early part of his career, Senex was in business with publisher Charles Price in London. When they parted ways in 1710, Senex began working with publisher John Maxwell until 1714, when they jointly published The English Atlas.
