Source unknown, to be determined.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Pierre Francois Tardieu’ after an anonymous artist. Pierre Francois Tardieu (1711-1771) was a French engraver. He was born in Paris, and was taught engraving by his uncle (Nicolas Henri Tardieu). Most of his works have a historical theme, although he also created numerous genre pieces. He is known for two excellent engravings after Rubens. He also contributed to the engravings for Fables de La Fontaine after drawings by Oudry.
Condition: Very good, given age. Small stains and soiling in the margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
