Map: ‘Nuova Carta dei XIII Cantoni degli Svizzeri infieme coi loro Alleati et Sudditi.’ (New map of 13 Cantons of Switzerland …) This original old antique print / plate / view originates from: ”Lo Stato Presente di tutti Paesi e Popoli del Mondo…’, published in Venice by Giambista Albrizzi, 1742. This print is from Volume XI, which deals with the Low Countries and Switzerland. This is in fact an amended Italian edition of: ‘Modern History: or the Present State of all Nations.’, published by Thomas Salmon (1679-1767) since 1725. German and Dutch editions were published as well. The monumental Dutch edition, translated by E. van Gogh and published by Isaac Tirion (1729-1803), was much amended and enlarged into a 39 volume series.Artists and Engravers: The anonymous author of this work is Thomas Salmon. Published by Giambattista Albrizzi (1698-1777), a Venetian publisher and journalist. Giambattista (Giovanni Battista) Albrizzi was the publisher of several illustrated books and maps. Among them a monumental edition of Gerusalemme liberata (1745) in two volumes, prepared in a collaboration with Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (1683-1754). The Albrizzi’s family was active in book publishing and selling in Venice for some 150 years. Most of the plates in this edition engraved by F. Zucchi (1692-1764).
Condition: Excellent. General age related toning. Light shop soiling and staining as visible on scan. Paper edges occasionally with small tears or irregularities not effecting image. Original fold lines as issued.Tear in top right corner, backed.
