Map: ‘Beleegeringe vande Stadt Hertogen Bosch Anno 1629’. It shows the siege of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, during the 80-years war. With two coats of arms, and a title cartouche. In the bottom right corner a tableau of soldiers playing dice and a woman repairing a tent. This map originates from Isaac Commelin’s ‘Frederick Hendrick van Nassauw, Prince van Orangien, Zyn Leven en Bedrijf’, published in 1651 in Amsterdam by Janssonius.Artists and Engravers: Isaac Commelin (1598-1676) was a Dutch historian. He wrote biographies of Stadtholders William I and Maurice, as well as ‘Beginning and Ending of the Dutch East India Company’, and a description of Amsterdam. He is the father of Jan Commelin and grandfather of Casparus Commelin. After C.F. van Berckenrode published by Hondius.
Condition: Very good, given age. Middle fold, as issued. A crease in the lower right corner. Left margin extended with paper, left edge stained (minimally affecting image). Please study scan carefully.
