A standing gentleman in 18th-century attire, wearing a tricorn hat and holding a blue flower, depicted in sepia tones with watercolor highlights.

Made by Jean Baptiste Madou after own design.

Medium: Watercolor and ink on paper on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 18 x 11.5 cm (7.09 x 4.53 inch). Image size: 14 x 9.5 cm. (5.51 x 3.74 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Slight discoloration on backing paper, overall well-preserved. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

With annotation on rear of carrier stating that is is a drawing by Madou, purchased at l’Atelier Larys, the brother in law of Madou. (cat. 20-3-12 no. 351).

Biography artist: Jean Baptiste Madou (1796-1877) was a Belgian painter and lithographer known for his genre scenes and historical subjects.
